Who We Are

The Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance (WLSA) is a special purpose trade organization committed to accelerating the adoption of innovative healthcare technologies to improve health care and support personal health.

Digital and wireless technologies enable our vision. The integration of medicine, science, technology, engineering and big data analytics will deliver improved wellness and cost effective health care and outcomes. We gather the creators in these fields.

It is the mission of the WLSA to create open and honest programs in which we create constructive cross-functional dialogue among committed individuals and organizations regarding the problems of health and health care delivery. These discussions lead to collaborations to develop and deploy new cross-functional multi-disciplinary solutions that deliver our envisioned future. WLSA measures its success by these solutions.

Our community includes CEOs, senior level executives, entrepreneurs, companies of all sizes, foundations, educational institutions, scientists, physicians, and policy makers.  The WLSA is dedicated to creating value and improving health, globally, by accelerating the adoption of technologies that empower consumers and innovative institutions. WLSA partners and companies all over the world are using wireless and connected health innovations to better manage chronic conditions, preempt disease and improve the lives of the elderly and under-served populations around the world.

WLSA sponsors two unique annual conferences, conducts ongoing guidance and matchmaking of individuals and organizations in smaller meetings, conducts educational activities and has initiated a policy initiative focused directly on the empowerment of consumers in healthcare.

WLSA founders first recognized the wireless health opportunity in 1999. In forming the organization, with the critical support of Qualcomm, Johnson & Johnson and Triple Tree in 2005, the WLSA established from the start an operating principal that its meetings would be focused on senior executives and that invitations would be based on the quality of the invitee’s achievement or innovation and capability to create valuable wireless health innovations.

Why San Diego?

San Diego is at the heart of the world’s technology markets, a great portion of which is dedicated to wireless enterprises, the life sciences and innovations in public and private healthcare markets. These attributes make it the perfect focal point for the ongoing and expanding dialogue among companies, professionals, academia, entrepreneurs and capital sources on the convergences of wireless technologies, the life sciences and consumers.

What’s Next?

Creative thinking, collaboration, and discussion are vital elements to technological innovation, progress, and market growth. The WLSA is dedicated to fostering relationships, cross-sector education, and the creation of business opportunities that will accelerate the convergence of these dynamic sectors. We look forward to providing these benefits to our partners and creating a forum for our event attendees to share, learn, collaborate, and – accelerate!

[1] Note on terminology.  Multiple terms are used to describe the influence of technology on healthcare.  Commonly used adjectives include “mobile” or “m,” “digital”, “wireless”  and “electronic.”  The WLSA prefers “connected health” as the term which best describes the source of value derived from the convergence of technology and healthcare, including mobile communications infrastructure, digitized information, big data, cloud-based systems and behavioral economics.  It is also relevant to the human dimension of the matter.  Technology is an enabler; good health is the goal.
