Samsung’s Galaxy S5 features built-in heart rate monitor

samsung-galaxy-s5Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 phone will be the first smartphone to feature a built-in heart rate monitor. Located on the back of the phone near the flash, users will be able to have their pulse rate read with the touch of a finger. The Galaxy 5S will debut throughout most of the world on April 11.

Similar innovations by Apple also demonstrate a focus on connected health using mobile devices. Apple currently holds a patent for a smartphone embedded with ECG sensors and there are rumors that the iWatch and iPhone 6 will be equipped with mHealth features.
