Sotera Wireless, Inc. announced on October 10th that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the company’s patented continuous, non-invasive blood pressure (cNIBP) technology. cNIBP makes up a vital component of their ViSi Mobile wireless patient monitoring system.
The ViSi Mobile System is a wrist-worn monitor that measures all core patient vital signs: cNIBP, heart rate or pulse rate, electrocardiogram, blood oxygenation level, respiration rate and skin temperature. It is as accurate as systems used in hospital care units. The system also incorporates several safety features, including an advanced alarm management system that notifies clinicians of dangerous changes in a patient’s condition.
“Blood pressure is one of the most important vital signs and yet it is considerably undervalued, largely because most clinicians are limited to period cuff-based measurements,” explained Tom Watlington, chief executive officer of Sotera Wireless. With cNIBP, the ViSi Mobile system will now be able to monitor patients’ blood pressure around the clock without disturbing sleep or disrupting other daily activities.
