Company Name: PillJogger.

Company description: Pilljogger is a motivation engine and its first application is a medication minder. Robert Pakter, M.D., the CEO, wants to “engage, entertain, excite and reward people for taking their medicine.” He has brought together a multidisciplinary team including a lawyer/software engineer, an MBA, a designer, and a sales/marketing director. Pilljogger’s design philosophy is to make the user interface simple and intuitive as well as “fresh and non-‐doctrinaire.” “Even if the dosage reminder time is predictable, the user experience doesn’t have to be,” Dr. Pakter says. PillJogger does this with elements of surprise and discovery, utilizing “micro-‐media,” short snippets of entertainment typically in game form. Patients earn prizes and rewards provided by sponsors who also use the platform for marketing and education outreach. Retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, employers and insurance plans may all sponsor patients so “the product will always be free to the user.” The platform also lends itself to clinical trials. The server-based architecture allows for secure record keeping of adherence history and HIPPA compliance. The syncing of the mobile device with the server allows caregivers and other authorized parties the opportunity to evaluate and manage patient behavior.
